for this week, we only had to do the keyframes for a 48 frame walk cycle, and then next week, the actual animation is due.
i liked the pommel horse pose, so i did a few more and decided to base my pose on #8.

here’s the final pose with stu in maya.

this week we start animating a walk cycle. it’s a 2 week assignment with only the keyframes due. we also have to pose stu in a pose showing strength. i want to go with pose 1, because i like idea of showing strength with grace.

based on feedback, i made some changes to my tailor animation. the timing is different on the bigger jumps with more time at the peak of the jumps, and the tail animation is different right after he gets squashed.
we had a new character this week, tailor. he’s just a ball with a fluffy tail. the assignment was to make him bounce at least 3 times and continue with what we learned in last week’s pendulum assignment.
the first thing i wanted to do when i saw his cute little tail was to squash him, and that’s what i did. based on feedback, i want to change some of the timing of the ball, make the tail more flexible, and make his tail animation much faster when he gets squashed.
here’s the animation. there are some things i’d like to smooth out once i get the critique from my mentor. this is week 6, so i’m halfway done with the first term!
the assignment this week is to animate a pendulum and focus on the principles of overlapping action. we have a choice of having it start from a stopped position and coming to rest, or an animation of our choice and having the pendulum move accordingly. i wanted to try to something more difficult, so my idea was the pendulum would be flying around and hit itself, then crash.

abc disney updated their website for the 2010 writing fellowship. note that they do not have a feature film fellowship this year, only tv. the deadline is july 7 with notifications starting in november. they’re picking 8 people. last year they picked 8 out of over 1300, so that’s less than a .6% chance. get that spec script polished up!
here’s the finished pose with stu. i tried to do pose #5, but his head is so big that it obscured the rear arm. i ended up going with pose #10 but from a different angle.

here’s the animation for the finished obstacle course.
i ended up changing the bounce from position 7 to 8 based on a classmate’s note from my sketch. i made it bounce further out to the right due to the angle of the platform.
